Hey folks i dunno if you have seen this trick before, but I've run it on my firefox browser ....DAMM!!! talk about speeding it up! :thumb: :D

Give it a try and see what you think. :dancing: So fast!
It's especially good for those unlucky enough to have broadband.

Make Firefox load pages A LOT faster

It works, very well if I might add

stolen from another forum

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Enjoy much faster page load times

Yes, also much faster on mine. This shoudlnt make your individual file downloads any faster... I just downloads all objects (up to network.http.pipelining.maxrequests) at the same time.... prob doesnt do this by default to cut down on bandwidth useage???

It dosen't seem to make page loading much faster. I also typed 500 in for my value :D Will that high of a number slow it down? I am also listening to streaming internet radio which might interfere with the results ;)

Easy way to find out is try it at that setting for a while and then try it at 30. see if there is a difference. :D

Yup, I will bet that is the reasoning behind it.

Well for most pages it doesn't change my speeds that much, maybe slightly but I checked out some photo gallery sites to see how it would do, actually did make an improvement there. Some sites though I am having trouble with them fully loading the images, I am sure I just have to get the right combination, but good tip either way!

It does proceed only 1 request at the time by default because many web servers used to be configured to allow only 1 file transfert at the time. Today most decent webmaster and sysadmin allow multiples (usually 5-10 concurrent transferts per session) to allow faster transfert, but keep a limit to avoid flooding of their servers. Imagine 100 persons each starting to open a page with 200 elements on it at the same time... poor server, and dont even get me started on the impact on bandwith! Bandwith is very expensive at these levels.

These Extensions were usefull with old versions of Firefox (well, at the time it was called Firebird). Now the RSS reader is included and the Google bar also (not the preview, just the bar). Personnally, I think the ImageZoom is a useless feature. TabBrowser Preferences offer few nifty options but nothing you can do by yourself in the preference (about:config).

The only XPIs I use are AdBlock and SpiderZilla. Never got used to those damn mouse gestures...

Thanks, all those changes worked great for me. I am new to Firefox and I use cable. Before the changes I could actually see the pages (pics) load and now they are loaded when the page opens. COOL!!
