Oakley and Motorola introduce wireless shades
Oakley's Thump was a sports shade with a built-in MP3 player. Now, the company's RAZRWire is a pair of Oaks with built-in Bluetooth, enabling hands-free telephone calls with Bluetooth-enabled cellphones.

Motorola, Inc.and Oakley, Inc. have unveiled a new line of Bluetooth wireless technology eyewear designed to keep consumers comfortable and connected. RAZRWire shades "frees the wearer from cumbersome wires and allows active users to quickly answer or place calls with the touch of a button."

The product was developed to meet "the needs of active consumers seeking seamless mobility, offering them an integrated easy-to-use design. For cyclists, skateboarders, rock climbers, golfers - practically anyone who is active outdoors - the innovative eyewear encourages hands-free connection while on the go."

Cos Lykos, Vice President Business Development, Oakley, said: "Technology is shaping the future of fashion. RAZRWire is a uniquely positioned product that innovates fashion with science to blend form with function, optimizing both."

The product is expected to be available in the second half of 2005.

I don't know if I think this is a good product except maybe for rock climbers. I think it could be cool to get an angry boss or wife on the phone while your hanging on to your life with your left hand.

I have a hard enough time not sitting on my sunglasses....now I could sit on my sunglasses, cell phone and mp3 player at once?
"So simple....even a caveman could use it!" :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D God, I love that commercial.

Would be an excellent application for Road Racing. Most teams use radios already, and with free calling between plans (ala cingular-cingular) this could be a more seemless way to communicate. Of course the glasses will probally be like $400 a pop and ugly as sin....

Getting rid of the wire is a good idea I think...we'll see what they look like. Could be a handy way to have a cell phone on a bike...

I had heard rumors that Lance used Oakley Thumps during a select few stages this year that were converted to a radio instead of playing MP3's I think it is a great idea but I hate wearing glasses during long climbs on hot days. Being forced to keep them on in order to communicate with team managers would be a pain in the ass to many riders.

Yeah, that would be a pain....i use to take my ear piece out so i didn't have to listen to them sometimes......nothing more annoying than a team director bored in the car........

On a road ride last year, I tried my earpiece and made a call during riding. Even at the slowest speeds, I couldn't hear or be heard.

On the other hand, there is sci-fi writer I highly recommend, Bruce Sterling. In his anthology, "A Good Old-Fashioned Future", just a few years from now, everyone is using "Specs", eyeglasses with huge computing power. From freeware translation programs to networking, it looks like a realistic possiblity.
