I use 2x cheap ebay tripods for my flashes. They work well enough, are lightweight and I don't have to worry about them being strapped to the outside of my bag. They have adjustable legs to allow for uneven ground too. They extend to around 5ft, which is ok.

The only problem with them being cheap is that they are easily broken. Both of mine now have duct tape fixings around the pivoting head.

How do your lightstands cope with uneven ground?

Lightstands suck on uneven ground. You can get some with one adjustable leg, but they are pricey and dont work so well. Just get cheap tripods. If you have decent lights, get good tripods. I lug around some heavy manfrotto ones for my rangers.
