I fixed the clutch and got it running for a short bit. They gave me the wrong carb kit though. I had it going for a while, but it stopped again. I guess I will take it to the shop for 2 weeks. :mumble:

Stihl? Echo? What kinda hi-dolla trimmer do you have that you would bother fixing pieces on it? I've bought into the Ryobi disposa-part mentality. $150 over 2 years and I have a spare everything (except for the straight-shaft gears).

Before that, a $70 Craftsman lasted 8 yrs w/nothing but cleaning.

Echo SRM-210.
Nice! At least once it's straight it should last a good while. The only Echo I've played w/is the go-go gadget pruner saw. It was mean. A little finicky in the heat, but it's my fault for trimmin' in the summer.

I have beat it up pretty bad for nearly 3 years. I had it running for a bit last night, but not so much for long. I'll try again today.

I was looking at weed killer in Costco yesterday ("CostCo" as Shuttles calls it  ) and they want $30 for the cheapest bottle. WTF?
The concentrate or the straight stuff?

They still couldn't tell me what rebuild kit I need. I found the info online tonight. Maybe they will have it tomorrow. I may get a carburetor in case the kit doesn't work. I finally understand what is up. I had it running full throttle, but it won't idle. That makes me certain it is the carb. This is the first ever gas or 2 cycle motor I understood. I know diesels well, but gas eludes me. I can't work on stuff with spark plugs.

The carb will be $60 max. A new weedeater is $200. Like I said. It runs, but won't idle. It can't be anything but the carb. I will be fixing it.

There was a thread about trimming people lawns. Why wouldn't we have a weed eater thread??

Dude at the parts place said, "John, why don't you let us fix it for you"? I said, "I already did the diagnostics and know it needs carb work. I can put a carb on for less than $60. It will cost that much to put a kit in, and you still don't have the parts." I would be 2 more weeks at least and it's only 2 screws to change the carb. I can't see paying them $50 in labor now.

Talked with Tim(jetski) this evening and he thinks it is just that your low speed jet is clogged with something.
That's where the little piece breaks off and clogs. It is apparently not repairable, so I guess that's what it is.
