I don't know Italy very well. Certainly Rome is an option to fly into, maybe Turin or Milan, but where else should we consider flying into that will yield cheaper flights.

It doesn't really matter which one since we'll rent a car and drive all over Italy from Rome north.

milano is yr best bet unless you want to fly to london, take a bus or train to stansted and do ryanair flights. which is a pain in the ass, but if you want the rock bottom price that's yr best bet.

that sounds like a heck of a hassle..

how much would be the savings???
reminds me of the years when i was young and innocent, and would fly into ft lauderdale with 120lbs of baggage take the tri-rail (and subsequent transfer bus) to miami, and then take another flight to save $80....

I should've qualified what I meant by "'cheapest'"... we want to fly into Italy with one stop. I was mostly wondering what the International airports in Italy are.

Also, we'd love to find a way to fly business class without handing over our first born.

Like Narlus said, London and then Milan Orio el Serio airport is the cheapest normally if you use the smaller London airports (gatwick, stanstead etc)

edit: read your second post - Orio el Serio was the cheapest for me from Montreal, but motionboy2 found the airport on the other side of Milan to be cheapest from Denver.

When I did exactly that, the savings was around $350 or so...and the train ride is only about 40 mins.

right now, flight+1stop is $1k, business is $3k. Obviously, it's not worth $4k extra, so we're exploring options, including using miles to upgrade.

That's actually a really good business class price to be honest. Upgrade miles are your best bet, that is what I use my miles for exclusively. Also, some airlines let you upgraqde for $30 per segment, a segment is usually 500 miles.

$125/hour for 20 extra cm, and 20º more of freedom to recline my chair... that prime real estate right there

i wish i was so rich i could indulge myself into paying $2000 just to have a bigger seat for 9 hours.
