Does such a thing exist? I know the DHS uses a much longer eye to eye shock but I can't find any dimensions for the Fly or any of thier newer bikes. Any of you Foes folks know?
No dice.The Nut is 11 1/8 x3. the FXR uses a roughly 9" x 2.25.
They have a huge i to i instead of a resivoir, since they can build whatever they want to fit on their frames. You would think that they would give in to the aftermarket but they say"ya want one then get a frame (from us) that was specifically designed to us it"
That's pretty much what I thought. I'm trying to explore my options for a frame that needs either a remote or no reservoir and that one just came to mind. Any inferno lengths?
Ya know the disturbing part is that I've probably ridden more avalanche shocks on more bikes than you have. I know they perform. I also know they are heavy and that there may be a lighter, equally worthy shock available. Like I said, I'm going to exhaust my resources first and then make a decision from there. That's just the way I am
But then again, saying "buy an avy" is just the way you are too I guess.
Brian managed to grow the world's only money tree in his backyard. When he needs to make a purchase all he has to do is walk to his backyard and pull off a few bills from the tree.
The Avy is a great shock but $750 is a lot of money. The Avy is heavy but I really do like the way it feels. Is saving half a pound really worth $200? And for a slow rider like myself, will it really make a big difference in the way my bike rides? I'm having doubts about that and will probably keep the steel spring.

I think I only paid $650 for my last Ti Avy with compression and rebound, it was even more awesome than the previous steel one I had. Not the lightest, but something I never thought about once installed. Just set it and forget it.
Jeff had some problems trying to run one on his Cannondale though, sounds like they work better under heavy spring rate conditions. I think he was trying to run a 350lb spring and just couldn't get it to feel right.

I've actually heard that from a few people, one of them on a turner. My impression of the romics (3) that I've had was the same. It seems the lower leverage of my turner doesn't let the shock behave very actively. I also use a 350lb spring incidently. Two of these exact same shocks felt just fine on my armageddon with a 450lb spring. Actually they felt great. I'm trying so work something out first with another shock but it's good to know that you could work a $650 package out of him. I don't think you can get 350 ti springs from him but the romic springs would work I think. Even then, the shock wouldn't be lighter than the joe schmoe propedal I've been using.
It sucks having someone who builds great shocks in a world of high leverage ratios only to have the problem fixed by a frame manufacturer that in turn invalidates the high leverage compensation designed into the shock.
I've had to hold myself back on the phone with turner because everything else they've done is absolutely golden. I've never been happier supporting a bike manufacturer. The 04 dhr shock cavity just borders on negligence though.
I'm still glad that these are my only problems. At least I'm not in Iraq.

how about a 6 way swinger froma 04 gaint team dh or comp it has a resivor. So not sure what you think but it is a opion if you can get your hands on one.
Aren't those 2.75" strokes? As far as I know, the only way to get those is off of a giant frame and someone wouldd be silly to get rid of it in my opinion.
Truth is, I really don't want a swinger/5th type shock anyway. The dhr linkage already makes that bike insanely progressive at the end of the stroke and I think I'd lose travel with progressive shock. Even mr Turner told me it would destroy the feel of the bike. The main pivot is also right on the chainline so pedal bobbing isn't really something I need to damp out too much anyway.
Let me know if I'm wrong about the shock length on the giant anyway.
I only paid retail for my Avy, I got no deal... even on the t-shirt, lol. Maybe I just forgot cause the price was so painful to the wallet.
Jeff sent the shock back to Craig and had it revalved and still didn't do the trick on that 8" Cannondale I guess. You'd have to talk to him for more info though.
Maybe I can help finance your shock purchase, your Fox will fit my bike.

Thanks for the link. I saw that shock on mtbr. Out of production parts, more expensive than full retail for a new fox DHX, only $50 less than an avalanche........still, I had to think about it for a while.
At least I've got some time to get something worked out.
