It certainly is, especially after a helluva storm as we had in the past days. Feels like pedaling in a steamer, with the tires covered in glue.

was gonna say, at least you can save money and buy the single-compound hard tires. at that heat, they are probably half melted anyways...

Is there enough chain wrap at the chainring so you don't lose it in rough terrain?

So far, no issues. (relatively new Wolftooth 30t N/W ring, new chain, new 11-42 XT cassette)

caveat: where i live and ride doesn't have much in the way of long stretches of vert - it's all short ups/downs. won't really have a good test of chain keeping over distance until the lifts open.

Love that mud surfer. And here's a fun fact: Wales gets ~57" of rain per year, and we got ~60" in 2018. To hell with a southern border wall, can we build a sky wall around Nor' Cack?

Finally decided to buy some knee pads and start hanging out at highway reststops...still need to work out the understall foot tapping code tho (definitely embarrassing when you get it mixed up!)

Anyway, so far I'm a fan of my new alternative lifestyle.

You went from 26forLife straight to wagon wheels? How's the lower O² level treating you? Any signs of thrombosis?

That paint is dope. I couldn't deal with the constant nosebleed though.

Destroyed the 3D printed bash today, I guess it got too brittle in the 20s today.
New OneUp Underbash went on the bike instead.

It's supposed to be Reigning Blood, but it looks more burgundy to me. Regardless, today's shakedown ride was rad AF...the next thing you know I will get a fanny pack and move to Provincetown.

As for the low O² levels up here in the mesosphere, it's not a big deal now that I have a therapeutic use exemption for all manner of asthma drugs.

I just run a steel chainring and don't worry about it.

Your mileage may vary depending on what interface you need. SRAM makes some cheap ones, or Wolftooth if you want a little shinier/blingier/moar spendier.

Perhaps it is not obvious from my post, I replaced the broken one with a new Underbash from OneUp. I like it a lot.

    Can confirm.
In my experience aluminum tends to stick and hang-up, whereas plastic slides.
    Ally sure looks better though.

That. I also hate the screeching sound when alum bash gets violated against a rock. :D

I do > 1000 miles per year on one of my MTB's which is 8 years old and still 3x9.

Decided to almost modernize the drivetrain on it now that 11 speed XTR is being cleared out for the new 12 speed stuff. Going 2x11 with an XTR, X01 and GX mix and swapping my 10 year old Pro 2 hub to an XD driver. 2x as I need the range and it means I won't be climbing on the big cassette cog very often.
