Subject: Jeffco Biking Update

Hi Everyone,
We promised an update after Julie and I met with Foothills P&R last
Friday. To come right to the point, it went extremely well. It's safe to
say at this point that building the trails is not just an idea anymore,
its a reality. We have the land and Foothills gave us the parameters.
This is real.

Julie has contacted IMBA for some trail building expertise and we've got
some trail experts in our group too. Our next step is to get all of us
together in a 'meet & greet' and view the landscape. Foothills gave us
an oblique aerial photo and some precise boundaries. We may not be able
to build everything we wanted in the first season, but that's ok.

The land we have to work with is west of South Simms between the golf
course and Ward Street. For those so inclined, starting from the
intersection of South Simms and Ken Caryl Ave., travel north on Simms.
The road will make a large "S" turn down a hill and over a small canyon.
As you start to climb the north side of the canyon (through the golf
course) look to the north west and you'll see the ice arena and other
buildings on the top of the hill. The hill side below the buildings and
up the canyon about 200 yards is ours to play with.

One other bit of news that some expressed interest in, and no doubt,
everyone will find this interesting. The use of the trails will be
managed just like the Foothills skateboard park. It's FREE!
Additionally, Foothills is open to sponsoring events at the site. The
events must be armature level, community focused, and youth oriented.
But, this doesn't mean that we adults can't play too.

Julie and I will schedule our meeting at the Peak Community Center. I
think that a Saturday morning might be best so that we can walk the
location. Let us know soon if that doesn't work. The next email we send
will include the meeting time, date, and directions. We expect it will
happen within the next few weeks.

thanks everyone for voicing your support!
--- Dave and Julie
