So, I've figured (mainly by peeping the geometry and guessing what will feel good) out that less travel is probably better for street & dj, while long travel is good for the DH.
Is this correct?

There seem to be forks with adjustable travel. That sounds great for someone who'll have one bike to suit many puropses. Which forks are adjustable like this, and how do you make the adjustments?

Any other links or comments about fork terminology or recommendations of good forks for light freeride + urban + dj would be highly appreciated.

thx.

I know very little about this stuff, but from what I've read/been told, the adjustable forks don't hold up very well to the abuse urband/dj/fr deals out. Most people say that 100mm is fine for an all-around play bike.

Well, Marzocchi's ETA is probably the most reliable "Travel Adjust", because when it locks down to 1 inch of travel, it is a death sentence to ride on it.

One time I turned the ETA level and forgot about it, dropped a 5 step staircase, then I wimped on a 12 step staircase and just rolled it. The first staircase locked down my fork, and the next staircase would have killed me on a 8 foot drop with only 1 inch of travel.

i'd get 2-3 inches of travel for something..you definately need something for hardcore downhill/freeride..so you were right when you thought of travel differences..a monster t or shiver is something for downhill..you do not want something anything like thayt..you could get a dirt jumper fork..its self explanatory
