I got a 04 888r and it needs a little work and adjusting. I'm just a poor college student so I'm not gonna pay to have it overhauled, plus I'm pretty mechanically inclined and figure I can do most of the work myself. I do have a few questions though. The fork is feeling a little stiff and seems to be topping out a bit hard. I was going to start with replacing the oil in the fork and see what that does. Does anyone know any good guides to help me change the oil or just have any advice? Simple things like how to drain the oil and how much to put in is what I need to know. Also, others that have this fork, how many clicks out are you runing on the rebound and compression adjustments and how does it feel. I've played with them and I've found that the compression adjustment doesn't do much. BTW I weigh 160. Any advice on how to get my fork feeling more plush would be helpful. I'm looking to get it set up better for high speed downhill, I want it to soak up the rough stuff better.

Marzocchi should have a manual on their website for opening up your fork and changing the oil.

The guys at Go-Ride.com have an article with tips on how to tune your 888 to your liking. Go here:

http://www.go-ride.com/tips.html

...and click on MARZOCCHI 888 TUNING.

I couldn't find anything on the marzocchi website about changing oil. All they have is the owners manual that you can download which I already have for the fork and it is pretty worthless. The tips on go-ride are alot more helpful though. I'm guessing I just pour the old oil out from the top of the fork and put the new in there as well. It says to cycle the the damping rods before measuring the oil height, any idea on what I have to do for this? Other than that that guide is really good. Thanks.
