Hey guys,

Well, it started here, then the ECC stopped holding, and just slipped. Marz tech support says "change the oil". Order oil, seal kit, green springs and a seal press (mmmm toools).

Follow the destructions to take it apart, and I find this. This is most likely what was causing the oil leak. The pilot bushing appears to have a corresponding scratch, but I couldn't get a clear picture of it. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,

Marc

DAMN! That's nasty looking. looks like a piece of stone or metal got wedged into the seal or bushing... to my knowledge that CAN'T happen from the outside, so it's either a piece of metal that broke loose from the cartridges, or a piece of grit that got in there during an oil change.

If this is the first time the fork has been opened up, then it's definitely a warranty issue. If a shop did the last oil change, then it's a shop issue. If YOU did thelast oil change... well, then you're kind of SOL. You'll need a new stanchion (which unfortunately means a new stanchion/crown/steerer assembly), a new seal and a new bushing... I'd honestly just send it back to Zoke and pay them whatever it takes to make it new again. They usually charge relatively little and then the work is guaranteed.

Yup. This is the first time the fork has been opened, to my knowledge. The oil was pretty mucky. Gonna strain it tomorrow and see what comes up. Being that removing the stanchions is the last step, I wasn't meticulous with the oil. I talked to Marz last week, and ordered new springs, seal kit, and press tool. So this is the final cruel surprise as to why my fork was dribbling oil. Well, I hope Marz Customer service can help me out.

Thanks,

Marc

Talked to Sean at Marzocchi today, he said because the scratch does not extend to beyond the seals, it is most likely a warranty issue. So, I 2nd day aired the fork there, and they will have it done in 5 days or so.

Great Customer service, IMO.
