I currently run a psylo XC with 6 inch avid mech disks, and I just purchased an 03 super T. 2 questions.

1. Is the crown race specific to the headset it came with or can I use the one that is already pressed on to fork?

2. For swapping my brakes, the zocci has disk break tabs that are angled differently than the psylo. The top tab sticks out more. . . this I presume is to accomodate a DH rotor, but does it also mean that I need to buy the avid adapter piece to run the larger rotor, or will the old adapter mated to the longer tab line things up right. Also, what size rotor do I need to order (or can I run either 185 or 203?)? All help is much appreciated.

Crown races are headset specific. Sometimes you can reuse them and sometimes you can't. Make sure it has a tight fit on the fork -- if you can put it all the way on without using a tool it is too loose.

Don't know your second question.

I would highly recommend the 203(8") for a Super T application.
You will need a 8" adapter and a new rotor ($40-$50 total)
You can use the old caliper.

You will need a new crown race if the headsets aren't the same kind

Is it alright to pop off the old crown race from the fork I currently have on there and use it again, or do they need to be replaced?
Sometimes you can reuse them and sometimes you can't. Make sure it has a tight fit on the fork -- if you can put it all the way on without using a tool to set it, it is too loose. 1 1/4" PVC pipe makes a great tool to set the race.

Hey great tip! I always just rode around doing drops with an allen key in hand tightening after each drop.

Recently a kid brought in a new Super T, and his old Tange aheadset crown race didn't fit. Actually even new ones did not fit either. My boss, the master mechanic, used a special knurling tool to rough up the base of the fork, and the old crown race fit perfectly.
