so I call to check on my grandmother who is more than likely going to be released here within a few days, and its with a nurse that has met me and knows my relation to the paitent (duh) and she wont tell me anything over the phone. what the hell? do you need a blood sample? fvck. :mumble:

Yeah Blame it on HIPAA - it's a PITA! :mumble:

But probably a good thing in the grand scheme of things.

Just makes it harder for us Academic Health Center fundraisers.

Yup. HIPAA is HUGE right now in the health care industry. Working in IT it's a tremendous deal for me. I have taken classes on HIPAA and watched hours of instructional videos. I had to report a violation at work that ended up getting a help desk agent fired for resetting patient records access for a doctor without verifying who she was first.

Most health care workers are scared to death of this right now. HIPAA violations literally mean termination.
