Here's the deal. I have a Bottle Rocket that has for a while been my do everything from AM-DH bike. It had a 36 on it originally, after a while that got clapped and I replaced it with a Totem. I ended up running the Totem at 160mm because it felt like too much for the bike at 180. Fine. Thing is, I finally got myself a real DH bike, so the BR really only has to serve AM duty now. The Totem moved to the DH bike (at full travel) and the 36 is back on the BR short term. It's not in good shape though, and needs replacing.

Do I:
-buy a proper DH fork, and move the Totem back to the BR? It would probably be a Boxxer or maybe a 40.
-buy a reasonable AM fork, probably a 150mm Revelation, and put that on the BR, and leave the Totem on the DH bike? This would be the cheapest option.
-sell the Totem, and buy 2 new forks? This obviously costs the most.

If the new bike is a true DH bike, and will only be used for shuttle/lift days, then get a dual crown fork (Boxxer, 40 or 888 with a new Avy cart...mmmmm!) for it and keep the Totem on the BR. If not, get a Lyrik for the BR.

Yeah, it's a full blown DH bike for sure. An Avy cart is going to be way out of my price range, but a good DC fork is doable.

Then go for a DC for sure. No need to get a brand spankin new one. The Avy cartridge is supposed to be ~$300 once production really gets going (so look into a 2009 Boxxer, and swap the cart later).
Suspension stuff wears out, and I'm OCD about maintenance. I'm probably buying new.

you are OCD about maintenance, but let your 36 get "clapped out?"

and you want to buy a new DH fork, but the Avy cartridge is too expensive?
An avy cart on top of a fork would be too expensive, yes. And the damage to the 36 was crash related, not a lack of maintenance.

Being cheap and poor at the moment (and pretty much always), I would get a Revelation or something similar. That would lighten up your AM bike and possibly add some more versatility to it. Especially if you end up using the BR more, that's where to spend the money on something new. Long travel SC forks work well; I doubt a DC would really be that much different.
