Somewhere dark, cold & wet....
Hi,

I've got a pair of Fox 32 RC's (or whatever they're called) that are currently p*ssing oil out of the rebound leg.

I've never bothered taking this fork apart, but I believe it's a sealed damper with an oil bath to lube the wiper seals yeah?

In that case, what is the chance of this current leak (bad enough to ruin my brake pads so far) being just the lube oil? And if it is the damper, are they user servicable or will i be sending the fork away?

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers,

Mark

I've taken a couple RLCs apart a few times. The damper is not sealed and is user serviceable. AFAIK only Fox's TALAS cartridges are not user serviceable. You'll need a set of plastic crush washers from Fox for reassembly. You might as well throw a new set of wipers seals in it while you are at it. Where exactly is it leaking? The wiper seals? The damper is on the right leg so how did the oil get over to the left?

Scrub the RC bit - just been reminded how old these ones are now! They are (it turns out) Vanilla 125 R's. So compression one side, rebound on the other. These are leaking from the rebound side

EDIT: they're leaking through the wiper seal

Yes. If they are the original seals and you say you have a 125R...which at the newest makes your fork 4 years old....you need a new set of seals. If the damper was busted you'd have other problems like knocking or pogoing etc. I guess you could have some sort of hydrolock thing going on, but that would be fixed when you cleaned the fork (and drained ALL the oil) to replace the seals (assuming you follow the directions I linked).
