I believe your right. I have been searching and found the same thing. Although I don't put a torque wrench on the bolts I have never twisted them hard. I wonder how bad it would be to ride on the fork or how long I have ridden on it like this.
If it's the normal crack at the back side of the dropout, running ~horizontal, it's fine. I got a fork super cheap that came cracked there and I've been riding the crap out of it for years.
Mines been cracked on one side for years, so keep an eye on them to make sure they dont get more cracks, and just dont tighten them up much.
Seriously 99% of people over-tighten everything on MTB's!
