Hi guys!
Ive got a question for you fox guys out there.
I have 2 fox forks, one is 2012 FLOAT 160mm and the other is 2013 TALAS 180mm.
I want to convert the 2013 TALAS to FLOAT by moving the FLOAT air spring over to the TALAS chassie.
However there are some questions i want to find out before i start to take things apart, and man did i try to google this and still find no answers. Reason i dont want to start before i know about compability is because if i remove the TALAS i cannot put it back without special tool as i understand?
- Will the 2012 air top cap fit the 2013 fork? (2012 is 160mm normal anodized type, 2013 is kashima 180mm upper)
- Will the 2012 FLOAT air spring work in the 2013 uppers? (i know length is wrong, but i am thinking to lathe one extension for it to fit 180mm)
- How do i remove the TALAS, without braking it, due to the IFP pressure and needing this special needle? What will happen when i remove it from fork leg?
- Does the 2013 TALAS have that special air-valve port that normalized the pressure between negative and positive spring? If so, will i need a newer kind of FLOAT air shaft assembly that has that negative chamber?
- Would it be possible to do other way around, and move the DAMPER from the 180mm fork to the 160mm? (the 160mm fork has not damper, chassie and spring only)
I would be very thankful if anyone has the experience and answers here. I bought the 2012 fork from a guy claiming it was 180mm, just to notice it was 160mm when taking it apart and notice some cm. missing from the rod on the air spring.
I attached the images from FOX webpage where i looked up the two models:
I also tried to find a new shaft to replace it, with a proper 180mm shaft.
I found several kinds of shafts, but i am not sure at all which one to use, one has the negative spring thing the other don't:
