Wondering if anyone has had problems with changing the travel on the Fox 40. I tried to change mine last night, but had problems with loosening the lower nut on the left (spring) side. When I turn the nut, the inner shaft turns as well. I tried holding the spring, but then the lower assembly turns too. I also tried compressing the fork to put some pressure on the shaft, but that didn't work either. Anyone experienced this problem or have any tips?

Also, what's the rule on aftermarket oils for Fox shox? Is Maxima oil ok? Any others?

Thanks.

It says nothing about needing special tools, only a new crush washer. Maybe something's not right inside your fork?

I did follow the instructions, it actually seems quite simple. The way it works is that the spring assembly has a threaded shaft at the end that goes through a hole in the bottom of the lower left leg. Then a nut secures the end of the shaft to the lowers. My problem is that when I turned the nut to loosen it, the shaft that it's threaded onto turns, so it doesn't un-screw. I tried holding the spring, but the spring is not fixed to it's lower assembly, so the lower assembly and threaded shaft still spins. The lower assembly is probably 15 inches or so down the fork, so I can't get anything inside to hold it.

I'm hoping someone who has actually changed their travel can shed some light. I think it should be very simple once I can figure out how to get the nut off.

Thanks

Have you resolved this? What was the outcome?

I just took my 40 lowers off and had no trouble. You should have new crush washers when you reasssemble.....
