Fox DH Fork production pics

These were on Dirt Works Australia. It looks pretty bling bling to me.
Not a racer only model, these pics are of the real thing. Just like the one that you will be able to buy later in the year. Biggest surprise is the new that there are two models. The 40-R and the 40-RC2. (there will also be two models of the 36 fork. But that's a secret, so don't tell anyone)

We designed our new Downhill Fork, the 40, to be the lightest and strongest Downhill fork made. The oversized 40 mm stanchions and huge lower legs give the 40 unparalleled stiffness for incredible steering precision and low stiction performance.

The left stanchion contains the titanium coil/oil spring with external spring preload adjustment. In the right stanchion you’ll find our proprietary externally adjustable dual-speed, position-sensitive damper as well as externally adjustable rebound.

The Internal Travel Spacer System provides adjustability from 8 to 6 inches in half-inch increments, letting the rider adjust the travel to the terrain requirements. The 40 has a stepped 20 mm thru-axle allowing the lower leg to settle into a lower friction point and we worked with disc brake manufacturers to develop a new Downhill disc brake standard, which creates a lighter and stiffer way to mount up a caliper for DH rotor applications.

From its low axle to crown height, to its exceptional lock-to-lock turning radius, no detail was left untouched. At under 7 pounds the 40 weighs in as the new heavyweight world champion.

If I was mountain bike-jousting, I'd still want the 40mm Monster T instead :D

a "new Downhill disc brake standard"?? I'm not sure I like the sound of that, but otherwise, that looks hot as sh*t.

I think that means tabs higher on the fork leg = smaller/lighter/stiffer adapters.

should it be? I don't know, but I do know that I'd want inertia on my side :D
But look at the cap on the bottom right leg on the fox. That thing could do some damage to eyes, head, chain mail, etc... The fox guys were smart when they designed to fork to joust. Plus, the stepped axle soaks up the blows better, but I guess we'll see, HSCV is hard to beat. The real question will be the european only all-black shiver. That could give all the euro dudes an advantage in the ring, since it does look bad-ass. The boxxer jousters will have a new platform, but the 32mm stanchions will have a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to stiffness. :D

Spoke to fox people yesterday actually about this, retail will be around the same price as a REGULAR (non spv) dorado.
Sounds great. The question is if there is such a thing as a SPV Dorado :)

Okay....so the Boxxer pro with ti springs is gonna come in at 7.1lbs...but this behemoth is gonna land UNDER 7lbs. I wish we had a downhill superstore around here to go check out these things in person. My 888 is the tits and I'm super stoked with it...can't see me taking a chance with a 1st yr production model with no predecessor. I'll sit back and soak it in.

By the way...how much is that price range....I've never priced a D - O - R - A - D - O (my best imitation of how the travel sticks) :D

well anyway you slice it it is light for having 40mm stanchions.i mean just compare it to the dorado and the monster (12lbs). it should be a badass fork.

weird, i have been riding a float RLC since the day it came out and havent so much as dinged the blowoff adjuster knob on the bottom of the fork.

I didn't kwow so many people were having issues with this, and with this knew knoledge, wonder why fox decided to put that monstrous freak nipple on the bottom of the fork?

Mojo replaced just the screw when I broke mine. Cost me the equivalent of around $30.

Eh... All they did was made it so that an 8" caliper/rotor combo bolts right up without adapters. It doesn't really qualify as a "new standard" (I think "worked with disc brake manufacturers" is pushing it.. If you consider one phone call of "Hey, would you read me off the dimensions for those 8" adapters you make?" to be "working with...").

Anyone who would want to run a 6" rotor with that fork has some issues anyway :D

Not from the pic. Not at least for two of the most popular systems out there, Hayes and Avid.
seems like they designed it so that you just use a smaller caliper or adapter.

if so, its just like the boxxer that has the IS holes "one size" further up, this one probably has them two sizes further up, meaning that you could just use a 6" adapter for your hayes.

One thought about the use of a ti spring in this fork.. I'm afraid to think of the cost for a stiffer spring (that's assume they are going to offer different spring rate). Probably not going to include 3 different springs with the fork.

The Ti springs for the Sherman Firefly are suprisingly cheap... These will be longer and wider, of course, but shouldn't be too unreasonable.

How much do they ask for the firefly ones?

The negative spring in the firefly is ti, not the positive one that varies by rider weight - that is why the springs are cheap - they aren't ti - at least when I ordered a different spring for my firefly, it wasn't ti - a magnet would stick to it :p
