i've been trying to increase the air pressure to 200psi on my rear shock, but when i pump it up to 200psi then remove the pump from the valve i lose half the pressure while unscrewing the pump!! anyone know a way round this problem??

thanks..

Are you sure you're actually loosing pressure from the shock itself? Keep in mind that when you unscrew a pump from the shock, you will hear the release of pressure from the air in the pump itself. Also when you screw a pump onto a shock, it becomes filled with pressurized air from the shock. This can result in an initial loss of 10-30psi of pressure from what the shock actually had right before connecting the pump.

If you suspect your valve is faulty, release all the pressure from your shock. Then unscrew the valve core using a schraeder valve core driver. Apply a thin layer of light grease (I prefer Buzzy's Slick Honey) to the rubber part of the valve core. Then re-insert the valve and tighten snugly.

After that re-inflate your shock. Keep in mind, assuming your shock is functioning properly, whatever the pressure your pump reads before disconnecting it is the pressure inside the shock. If you are truly loosing half the pressure it'll be blatantly obvious. For instance I just built up a Mongoose Black Diamond Triple and with 100psi in the rear shock the thing sagged at least 50% with me on it, at 200psi it was definatley under 25% sag.
