Fox DHX Spring on a Vanilla?

We've got a pushed vanilla RC here for a customer, but the only spring we have in the correct stroke/rate is for a DHX5.0, which is slightly larger diameter. It fits on the collars, but you can move it slightly back and forth 1-2mm on the collars, even with the preload set correctly. Is this going to work? It's only a temp. fix, we've already ordered the correct spring, but the guy is leaving today for a week long vacation, and wants to take his bike.

I've heard of people using romic springs on vanilla's, I I know those are larger diameter. Can anyone confirm if this will work? thanks

I've run them that way with no problems.
Have the rider center the spring occasionally to make sure the spring isn't rubbing on the resi.Put a turn of preload on it to help it stay put.

my Swinger spring fits a bit big on both my DHX and vanilla. I used a thin wire to shim the spring so it remains centered. You could also use an o-ring, aluminum can strip, duck tape strip etc to keep it centered.
