Is this actually true or is it just getting repeated over and over? I thought float fluid was fairly similar to red rum, its just there as a lube right?

If you are referring to needing float fluid for the foam washer in the dust wiper, I have had good results using Slick Honey on my 40.

No the float series forks need float fluid in the top of the air chamber and they suggest using it to lube the piston seal.

I have two 32 floats, I have never used float fluid it them and been fine. My older one is a 2004, maybe an 03. I just use whatever fork oil I have on hand.

Enduro Fork Seals recomends synthetic 5w-40 motor oil for the bath, they say it sticks to the parts better.

While the info in that article is interesting it does not say what to substitute for the float fluid. Also whatever Enduro recommends I would not trust, o have found their seals suck especially on Fox forks

i've read float fluid and red rum are the same product with different color dyes - torco engine assembly lube. supposedly 80wt synthetic gear oil is a valid substitute.
