brian your near the beach arent you?

id suggest hunting down a broken funboard mast, its the ideal downtube guard, go ask at a surf shop.

then just dremel it into shape (wear a mask and glasses)

I'm out of carbon right now and hadn't really planned on ordering more anytime soon, otherwise I would offer to make one. I thought I had seen somewhere on the internet that someone else was making them, I can't for the life of me remember who it was though.

I like Vitox's idea, although you don't even need that much carbon to protect again's rocks. I've used less on my old bike and gotten away with it and still provide good protection.

Honestly, if you have ever worked with fiberglass you can order and make your own carbon guard pretty easily, I think www.Carb.com is having a sale on colored carbon/kevlar weave right now too.

Here's the one I made for myself for an old bike.

I just called them, I was hoping to get a pre made strip.

They should make those Karpiels thicker. :D

BTW, it'd be super simple to just get fiberglass and resin, a PVC pipe, use the pipe as your mold, lay the fiber glass on top, paint the resin on, then paint whatever color your heart desires. Heck, maybe you could order some "carbon fiber stickers" like Race Face uses :D

Or even worse, you could use the honda civic carbon fiber printing that SRAM use here...

According to nsmb, that's a proto X0 with a carbon fiber cage on the left.

Getting some clear tubing from home depot and cutting it legthwise is also an option. The bigger diameter is a bit heavy but it's super-thick.

I've actually had good luck with the clear 3m protective tape. I put it on 3 layers thick. Just cut three strips a little wider then you need. Stick all 3 together leaving the backing on the first one, work out the air bubbles and then trim all 3 at once to final dimensions. Then just remove the last backing and stick it on. Very thick and tough, can be easily replaced and is cheap. Not as tough as the aluminum I'm sure, but I haven't gotten a dent in 1 1/2 year of riding the frame.
I've replaced it once since initial install. The tape was beat to hell, but frame was perfect underneath.
