I'm in the market for a new frame and trying to put together a list to work from. Here is what I'm looking for:

- is 24"/3.0" rear tire friendly;
- has ideally 8" rear travel;
- mostly freeride use, mixed with DH use;
- I would like to run 2 rings up front (but not manditory)
- Frame will fit a Fox RC or after-market shock
- Optional floating brake (comes with frame, or aftermarket)

So far the list covers:
- Balfa BB7 (won't run 2 rings up front)
- Specialized Big Hit DH
- Ellsworth Dare DH
- SantaCruz Super 8 (I heard they were discontinued?)

Any suggestions?

Have you thought about a Foes Fly? Dirtworks?

Also keep in mind that a well designed 4-bar usually doesn't need a floating caliper as much as a single pivot, and higher single pivot's need it more than lower ones.
The super 8 won't run a front derailleur unless you find the old version of it used (basically an bullit with a big swingarm).

What's your price range?

Hoping to keep around or under CDN$2000 so that I have some money left over for a new BB, Seatpost, etc...

The NORCO Team DH frame fits in that category. Those frames are relatively cheap too (under $1000 US).

I'm not too sure on the tire clearance, but I know a 2.7 24" will fit.

My biggest gripe about Norco is their crappy paint quality. I had a Team DH and the paint chipped every time I touched it with anything. Every time a tool slipped it chipped.

Also, MountainSpeed does make BB adapter that will work on many bikes that will allow you to run an E-type front deraileur.

I saw it at Interbike last year, but haven't seen it on their site. Anyone know where to find one? They might have scrapped the idea.

Here's a pic of it:

i think for the money the Specialized DH is pretty much an excellent option, i just picked up a Big Hit Pro and for the your type of riding this frame is peffect, youll fit a 3.0 tire in the back and will have money left over upgrade other parts you wanted.

I definatly havent regretted buying my specialzed

Get a Bullit.
Definately improved my riding.
I race expert DH
my best finish last year was 17th place
on a specialized fsr 5.5" travel.
My best finish this year was 3rd.
The only component I changed was my frame

Get one, strip it, sell the frame.
Keep all the parts & get a bullit

wait until you see the 2003 SGS. Bearings all around, new linkage design, longer stroke shock. It is a seriously nice lookin' machine.
