Guide R's. They're fine. The smarter move here is to pull this thing apart this winter and fix what needs fixin'.

How long should rotors last? I'm trying to remember how long I've had my Hope floating rotors for now but its surely been at least 4 years now. Do you guys measure rotors and replace before they're cooked? or just wait till they're obviously glazed/bent/warped? Or just time based replacement?

What 200mm rotors (that fit Dominions ~max 2.0mm) are good?

I've never worn any down to the point where they fail the thickness measurement, but I've tossed plenty due to being too bent or too contaminated.

I used SRAM HS2 and Galfer Sharks when I had Dominions. HS2s work well but will probably need some time on the stand to true them at first. Sharks are super expensive but come straight-er, hold true longer, and have more bite. I haven't tried Galfer Waves yet, but NSMB just reviewed them and they sound comparable to the HS2, maybe a tad better.

Ive been running TRP TR33 rotors all year and they've been great.

I had Trick Stuff HD rotors that are just a hair over 2mm, but couldn't get them to stop rubbing. They'd be great and silent, but one or two hard braking moments and it's be back to the constant tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk

I replace my rotors when they bent or really turn black and purple. Not often to be honest.

The Galfer shark rotors are bloody expensive here - $150 each.

I wanted to try the Lewis rotors (pretty cheap here) but at 2.3mm they won't fit Dominions.

Used until they measure too thin. Not often I've bent one out of shape before then.

I put a set of the Chinsesium ZTTO 2.3mm rotors on my downhill bike and I've been impressed. I've ran them with Shiguras and XT and they've surprised me. It took a little to get them straight out of the box but since then they've been fine.

I use Chinesium Centrlines at $20 for 2 x 203mm and replace them every 6 months or so. With my Cooma Ultras.
Bulk runs at Maydena as you know is as hard on brakes as anywhere.

Anyone running Dominion A2?

Since they are currently half price, thinking it would be a good upgrade for the fatbike. Just wondering if they'll be a bit more powerful than my current setup. Running a set of Guide R from 2017...

Got the A4 too. I'm assuming they have the same lever feel, just less powerful? To which percentage you would say ?
less power, hard to say percentage wise. i wouldn't say its significant, but none of my local trails have descents with the same elevation drop and steepness as the DH I ride. slightly more initial bite too. worth noting i'm running 203 rotors front and rear on both the a2 and a4.

Following!
Morning !

I have a pair of A2 brake sets in my cart. But since I'm in Canada, I was wondering which carrier you are using? Right now Canada Post is on strike, and shipments with UPS means hefty custom fees for us, members of USA's 51st state. ;)

Let me know if a shipment with FedEx would be possible.

Regards,

Jocelyn

Andrew Major wrote an article about them on NSMB. Given the choice, he'd go A4 every time. But I don't recall him flagging a huge weakness of the A2.

I wouldn't want anything less than the A4 for a dirt rig. But for the fartbike, I'm assuming they'll be plenty powerful. I'm more interested in lever feel/shape than actual power.

But for now, getting them from the US seems like a hassle. I'll wait for boxing day, in case I can get a local deal.

Have ran them both for a while, and both on the same bike too. Same power and same lever feel (slave pistons have the same surface area, so that should come as no surprise), but less heat dissipation with the A2. Only noticeable on long descents. A2 perhaps felt a bit more bitey. Both A4 and A2 calipers leaked as well

Read an article online about a new brake from outside teh industry in the UK & will be using Stainless pistons, having very low conductivity of temps. If not for having had phenolic pistons be more common w/ ease of overall use - did Brembo use scalloped piston reliefs?
Learned about this from competition motorsport use - heavier vehicle, higher sustained temps but the small caliper on a bicycle can experience heat soak quickly - the SRAM Maven the current example to combat this.

Trickstuff uses stainless steel pistons in their brakes since at least mk.1 Direttissima.

Why not titanium? You could flex on weightweenies forum at the same time.

@kidwoo bought a set from China a few years ago IIRC. They were too small for the calipers and leaked like crazy.
