Freaky unconscious measurements...

Hey, so last night after I got back from a ride, I had a coupla beers and did some maintainence on my DJ bike, then noticed a few things I needed to alter on my other bikes, and before you know it there were bikes everwhere and you know the score, but anyway...

I was interested in the exact difference in my chainstay lenghts so out came the tape measure and I started measuring up my frames and before you could say "Stop it you anal fool!" I was writting out a little chart on a bit of scrap paper. In doing so I found something which I thought was quite weird.

On the set ups of my three bikes, a GT BMX, a Giant AC1 and my lovely Revell, totally without being aware, I've set up the cockpits to within less than 1/2" of each other! I suppose this isn't that suprising given that I haven't changed size, but I was shocked at how close the measurements are to each other. I've recorded them to the 1/4 inch on the chart, but they were like less than a 1/8" out in reality. I am stunned by my own ability to set up three different bikes by 'feel' to such a tight tollerance.

Am I a freak or is this common?

Edit: When I measured from the 'saddle', I mean the bit of the saddle my weight actually focusses on, for me normally about 2-3" from the back of the saddle itself - where my hips bones rest if you see what I mean.

freak. my bikes would have no such concordance since the evil and canfield seat tube designs place the seat in very different locations...

Well, I'd have said that about my BMX vs. my AC, but... My BMX even has a layback on it because I didn't like how it felt straight. Do the measurement!

What about BB to bars? I measured mine, and they are almost with a 1/2 inch, including my FR and my road bike...

A friend of mine pointed this measurement out, and I know it has made the RM rounds. It seems important if you ride a lot out of the saddle...
