Yes, unfortuneatly the built in webbrowser doesn´t support Flash Player 10 so you can't view the streams. :(

Adobe hasn't ported flash for a variety of devices, video game consoles being one of them (cell phones being another notable category). I sorta doubt that they made this decision entirely of their own free will.

If you want to stream freecaster, you'd have to install linux on your ps3.

I can see this ending really, really well...
There's tons of guide's and how-to's online. And actually, there's an "Install Other OS" option built in to the firmware/dashboard that the PS3 ships with. Sony actually markets this feature too (and they also did so with PS2, though there was no internal HD).

Huh...interesting. I thought it was just going to be another install hack like the 360...

Nope this is legit to the max. From what I've seen the console OS install feature even has a built in partitioning feature, which is pretty sweet.

Google around some, there are some scientific/research facilities using Linux PS3's clusters to perform supercomputing. The cell chip in the PS3 is really damn powerful.

the cell processor is still more powerful than most processors on the market currently...and the PS3 has 8.

the operating system on the PS3 is also installed on the chips themselves which is how you can swap HDD's without losing your operating system.

youll be seeing this type of SOC (system on chip) from intel very soon.....but you didnt hear that from me

Steve, my understanding about the cell processer is not that there are 8 of them. There is one cell processor with 1 PPE (Power Processing Element) and 7 other "specialty" chips called SPE's (Synergistic Processing Elements), 6 of which are devoted to various tasks and elements of game stuff (from what I've heard, they have devoted tasks, one handles physics, another handles lighting, stuff like that), a 7th handles OS stuff and security, and the 8th is disabled for some reason.

And there is also a separate GPU.

i see you are reading wikipedia.

my mistake, its 1 chip w/ 8 processors.
the 8th processor is disabled so the other 7 can work faster

Well, there is Adobe Flash Player 9 support on the PS3, the problem is Sony is too damn lazy to update to 10 :/

I thought about installing Linux but I ended up buying a 10m HDMI-cable instead and connected it to my computer to watch the World Cup-races.

The majority of sites you would want to visit require flash 10, and aren't backwards compatible with Flash9.

This isn't Sony's doing, they're not the ones that code and port Flash Player. This is most likely pressure on Adobe coming from cable companies. I'm absolutely certain that Adobe has the ability to port Flash Player 10 for any video game console, they just don't. Why? Because cable companies don't want you watching television on the internet, because it cuts into their bottom line. They're doing anything and everything they can to keep people from doing so, and that also means pressuring companies (like Adobe) to keep people from getting their hands on the software they need to do so.

Yes, you can hook a computer up to a TV screen, but most people don't do that. People do, however, readily hook up video game consoles to TV's. If people could readily plug their video game console into their TV, and watch their favorite shows over the internet on their console, why would they want to keep cable? That's exactly the reason that all 3 consoles right now (xbox, ps3, wii) don't have the latest versions of flash.

Similar could also be said for cellphones, but another big part of the issue currently is that if people were watching tv shows on their phones all the time, it would eat up all the bandwidth a carrier has (but supposedly this issue will be going away with the advent of LTE networks and 4G).

This isn't some tinfoil hat theory either, this is pretty well documented. A quick google search will turn up plenty of articles covering topics about cable companies and their desire to control their content (especially compared to things like Hulu).

This has also got me thinking about the possibility of running Netflix Streaming via Linux. A quick google hasn't turned up any definitive answers. I'll look more later.

It was an add on, like the network adapter. Went in the back docking bays.

Latest version of Flash is still not ported for PS3. So no Freecaster.

edit: just noticed my ps3 needed an update, so I'm updating then I'll report back. I highly doubt it though.

3.15 just enables the transfer of data,DLC, and other things downloaded from the playtstation store from one ps3 to another in case you get a new ps3. It also does something regarding those minis that are on the playstation store.
