Does anyone know who makes a freeride bike that would fit a guy who is an honest 6'7" 270lb? He will use it a trail bike primarily, and wants to spend no more then $2K, and it must be fully suspended. He sat on a 21" Iron Horse SGS and dwarfed the poor bike. I recommended Hairy Gary as I believe he could build a custom full suspension rig for him. Any other ideas?

don't bullits come in an XL size? Even that may be too small if a 21" iron horse wasn't big enough. For under 2K it'll be difficult to find anything that really fits a person taller than about 6'5", could this guy get used to riding a bike that's a little on the small side? Maybe a Gary Fischer 29er with lots of duct tape to reinforce it???

I could probablly think of a few custom frame builders that would make a bike to fit but they'd be expen$ive.

i know a dude on a XL bullit and he loves it. He is like 6'8". He just had to ride a 75 steam and a little seatpost out. But then again he mostly Free Rides it.

if you want a really sweet bike, canefield fatty fat http://www.canfieldbrothers.com/CanfieldBrothersDownhillBikes.htm , this would however, completely throw all thoughts of a budget out the window. but if you had a lot of money, it's the best. custom, can be super beefed up with steel front triangle.
don't really know of any companies that make a big burly bike. you might want to look at the marin http://www.marinbikes.com/html/spec_04_teamdh.html, they seem to have a slightly large frame compared to other manutfacturers but the toptube is still comprable to others.
the bullit should be able to handle anything that the guy can dish out. if he's just using for trailriding, then almost any fr biek should handle hihs weight. and important thing to consider for f/s for super-clydes is the travle ratio of shock stroke to frame travle. try to get the lowest possible in oder to be able to find a spring that can handle his weight. anything over 3:1 wouldn't be good.

another great custom f/s frame manufacturer is nicolai. they're in germany. english website: http://www.nicolai-usa.com/ they're out of your budget too but have more option then canefield as far as getting a trail/fr bike to handle the guy's weight or maybe just an overbuilt trailbike. email them and ask about possible options if you can modify one of the stock frames with thicker tubed trailbike (it takes a while for them to return emails though(i sent something to them a week ago and still haven't gotten a response))

Half this thread got deleted with da Database rollback. Anyways I already gave him some ideas, a while ago. He was a customer who came in and since I couldn't hook him up with any thing we had to offer i was trying to find him a good option.
What I meant by freeride bike is something that would hold up to trailriding for 270 lb dude, as he won't be hucking, freeriding, or shuttling, just trailriding. Thanks though for you input. I would like to help him get an used XL Bullit but it would be weird as I workina retail shop, that has got to be some kind of ethics violation. How come my puter always goes in to write over as I wrtie a thread?

I'd clear it with the owner first but if you can help the guy find a bike then he's more than likely to come to you for the little things like a helmet, shoes, power bars and other little things that as I undertsand have a significant mark up. No ethics questions in my mind.

yeah i'm also a big guy(6'5" 240) and the iron horses are a little small in the top tube.
but look at a really big jamis xlt i know that there top tubes are relitivally long.

that should also be in the price range

that is all that i can say
