You tightened your clamp so much it bent the frame? never heard of that. You may be OK, but i dont thinkso. i Think if you hit any big drops or jumps, you could pretty much fold your frame.. but im not sure.. is it still in warranty?
Well, I figured that it was rare because there is nothing on the web about it. Oh, and this is a road bike so no jumps or drops. I doubt that this would have happened on my MT bike since the wall of the seat tube is a lot thicker then my road bikes.
It is not major and not cause any thing to be out of alingment. The clamp is secure and derailuer works better then it did. I guess I will find out tommorow when I go for a ride.
You really have to put a lot of torque on the front derailleur clamp to damage the seat tube... do yourself a favor, and never tighten anything on your bike like that ever again. A torque wrench would be an excellent investment if you find that you're someone who can't really judge how tight things are - there are virtually no bolts on a bike that require actual effort to tighten, just the amount of strength in your wrist.
Not trying to be preachy, just trying to save you bike parts
Thats the seat tube you damaged, not the down tube. Yeah, go ride it. The seat tube is under the least amount of force when riding, and Ive personally never seen anyone break a seat tube (aside from the flange where the post clamp goes. You should be fine.
