I'm building up the SB and have discovered that my front derailluer does not fit. I need a D-type front derailluer now.

Current setup:
Front
Sram 3x9 front shifter
XT 3 ring cranks setup with 2 rings and a bash

Rear
Sram 10-sp

Do I need to get a 9-sp front der because I am running a 9-sp crank/shifter? Can I get away with a 10-sp 3-ring front der?

I've actually worked closely with this set up (9 speed XT crank, 10 speed rear) several months ago on a customers bike. Unfortunately, I suspect you'll run into more issues than just which derailleur to buy, like he did. He experienced persistant mis-shifting and slipping issues that were completely independent of adjustment or wear factors. In the end he ultimately had to purchase a 10 speed crank for everything to work harmoniously, which it did in the end. 10 speed is really meant to work with 10 speed. They really aren't kidding. Sorry for the bad news.

I've been running this setup with a 9-sp front der for 2 years with no issues. I just need to know if I can get away with a 10-sp derailluer, or if I need a 9-sp.
