Trying to adjust the front derailluer on my dads old bike but can only get it to shift two gears. Can't seem to get it to shift to the big gear at all. It is a bottom pull derailluer.

Increasing cable tension is the first obvious answer. But more info is needed. Will the chain go up to 3 by manualling pulling on the cable? Is the shifter working? Is the bottom bracket too long/ installed correctly? Is the limit screwed in way too tight? Do you know what you're doing?
Its and old bike so yes you can pull on the cable and move the derailluer up but I have tighten the cable and I can make it work on 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 but not 1 - 2 - and 3 so I don't know if it is the shifter or I am doing somethimg wrong. I can adjust a rear derailluer in my sleep but have not had much experience with the front. It has a new cable so the only thing I can think of is the shifter is screwed up but my dads girlfriend has the same bike and hers is doing the same thing go figure??
