I had another good ride this weekend. Met up with a few friends at Hall Ranch, just north of Boulder. Weather was perfect and I felt good. Its a great trail (although a bit short) that starts out with some decent singletrack that quickly turns into a 1.5 mile climb through some extremely cool rock gardens. Once through that, you drop down into a small valley then continue climbing super sweet singletrack to a top loop, which takes you on even more REALLY nice swoopy singltrack. You can do the loop as many times as you want, then come back down the trail you rode up. I love this trail.
Here's some nice views just leaving the trailhead
Charlie as he starts up the first technical climb
Looking back down on the singletrack
One of the many technical rocks sections of the first climb. My rate of success with this section is about 50%.
Old line. New line.
The old line is the 2+ ft rock step. The new line is the obvious line to the right
Old line, new line #2
The old line actually took you up and over the rock to the right. The path that you see didn't exist until about 2 months ago. It used to be a deep rock "V" that was impossible to pedal through, so you had to go high to the right. So first you had to clean the "step", then cut it hard left and power up and over the rock bulge without sliding down into the V. My rate of success on this move is about 25% (old line, that is).
Jon about to clean a tricky rock garden just around the bend from the "step"
Another view of what Jon just cleaned
Nice view from the top of the first climb. More sweet singletrack awaits across the valley
Nice view looking north as you drop into the valley
More nice views at the intersection of the loop
I love sweet swoopy singletrack
Old homestead
View from the top. Longs Peak and Mt Meeker off in the distance
That's all for now. I wished I'd taken more pics on the climb up. There are so many really cool rock moves, but this trail is just too fun to keep stopping all the time. I can clean every section, but I've yet to clean them all at one time. Some day I may do the climb non-stop, but I haven't yet.
