I could seriously take or leave FB. But I think removing news would be welcome to many of us. I don’t really get any news from FB, outside of someone commenting on a story, or something. They should remove ads while they are at it!
I still use it, mainly for messenger for organizing bike stuff.
One thing that I have noticed is the amount of right wing culture wars BS.
The more RW fuckery I Right Click, Hide All, the more I seem to get.
But balance is fair, so I occasionally get a LW post, but it also seems to be one or two lone sources. Currently running about a dozen to one in favor of the fascists.
Curious. I don't get any RW anything of any sort, except maybe an ad for camo cargo shorts, or some shit. They gave up on me a long time ago.

We've got a county level alert system that's (eventually) proven to be pretty effective. It just hits every phone reachable by certain towers. I imagine there are similar up there?
yes. I imagine it's been used. I guess the issue here is that people have tried sharing news via facebook (why people do that is beyond me, but it's popular I guess), but can't anymore because Meta is being a big baby and taken it's ball home.

even with some of the agency instituted resources we finally have after proving time and again that shit like facebook is potentially an even bigger hazard with misinformation and propaganda during emergencies....we still have one of the biggest fire fighters using it because they don't put resources into an agency solution
Even though the 'get the fuck out now' alerts work great, they need to quit doing this shit and funnel info through other means. This is for a fire near here right now
as these fires get more frequent and more destructive, there's no excuse for a lack of effective govt systems

I feel like I've posted this before, or maybe just complained to other friends about it. I get flooded with "suggested posts" from accounts showing extreme tattoos and body mods, including never-ending "black alien guy" and anuskatzz content (definitely NSFW searches). Oddly many of these are non-english posts, often filmed or edited on a potato and never properly cropped. I have clicked on the "don't show me this" so many times it is laughable, but I just keep getting more updates of the same. You'd swear there was nothing else online.
You interacted with the post, therefore you want more of this. You just confirmed it with the do not show me this. In my experience ( which is the same as yours ) this is how it works. My feed is now nothing but what I don't want to see, therefore I ignore it. I still use messenger as that is the normal way of communicating with the riding crew.
Messenger is what keeps me hooked in. I have a few friends/groups using it. I really should just switch to text or WhatsApp for my international connections.

I guess it's easier being told what to think instead of doing your own research, talking to others, getting their opinions eventually coming up with you own conclusions. Oh that's right, Lord Fauci along with Joe Biden himself said if you were vaccinated you couldn't get or transmit Covid (originally) that was proved to be false along with withholding potential life threatening side effects from the vaccine itself. They censored other medical experts opinions in the field and that's where the problem lies. Twitter did the same thing, and that's why Musk purchased it. It's going to be a fun next 4 years watching all of you cry like a bunch of 12 year old girls because things aren't going your way.

If you dig around in your user settings, you'll find a variety of bits of information they've collected about you that you can opt out of/delete.
This is, of course, not the same as enabling privacy, but if the complaint is mostly the subject of the suggested posts, it's likely that they've tagged you as interested in body mods/tattoos, in which case saying "don't show me this" is more akin to saying, "this particular news source sucks" rather than saying, "I'm not interested in this topic at all."
If you're interested in more privacy, you can run your logged in Facebook sessions in a separate browser, or if you use Firefox you can use a container, or you can use a separate user inside your browser (lots of browsers allow multiple users/profiles now). That will isolate your logged in Facebook account from the rest of your browsing.
