Sounds like a great night for moderate republicans... A moderate Republican won in NJ and the Teabaggers screwed up a safe win in upstate NY. If the Palin/Pawlenty/Limbaugh crowd want to recreate NY23 across the country in 2010, go for it!

Yeah, although I think the best comment from that race was how Christie was "throwing his weight around..."
I'm just glad the Palin/Pawlenty/Limbaugh/Beck/Lunatic-fringe got smacked down. Pawlenty had some comment about "recreating the NY23 race all over the country next year"... Uh, yeah buddy, go for it!
I voted for Corzine because he's not a fatass. How does Christie expect to manage an entire state if he can't even manage his own body weight and health?
The document gained attention in the campaign because it outlined a 15-point conservative Republican/Christian agenda, including 10 points McDonnell pursued during his years in the General Assembly, according to press analysis.[27] This agenda includes opposition to abortion and support for school vouchers, and tax policies that favor heterosexual families. In the work, McDonnell argues for covenant marriage, a "legally distinct type of marriage intended to make it more difficult to obtain a divorce".[28]
In his thesis, McDonnell said "government policy should favor married couples over 'cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators.'"[29] McDonnell also "described working women and feminists as 'detrimental' to the family."[30] McDonnell also "criticized a landmark 1965 Supreme Court decision" which legalized the use of contraceptives by married couples. In the thesis, McDonnell argued for the use of government intervention on societal issues, writing that "mans basic nature is inclined towards evil, and when the exercise of liberty takes the shape of pornography, drug abuse, or homosexuality, the government must restrain, punish, and deter."
2000, 2004 national elections and growing up in a state that repeatedly elected Jeb Bush for gutting the schools their kids attend taught me exactly what to expect from this country.

Virginia has pretty much elected moderate candidates over the past few years. The northern part of the state is dominated by Northern transplants that tend to be democrat supporters. The rural areas have very high black populations and tend also to be Democrats. The few big cities on the coast have strong influence from the military and tend to be Republican.

Yeah it is pretty ****ed up. I guess I am partly to blame, I didn't even know who was running and didn't vote. I don't pay attention to many local news sources and none of them ever mentioned any of the races over the past year. I think there has been a bit of an election hangover from last year.

So wait, Mr McDonnell thinks government intrusion into peoples lives is okay? Or is it just when those people happen to be gay, and/or want to use a condom? So once again we see the hypocrisy of the republican party. "Government out!, unless its expedient to my bigotry and fear." And were at war with the Taliban because they are unreasonable extremists?
