Got a message at 9 asking if he could take our 10 from home. In effect, I said I couldn't train him at home and he had already missed a good portion of the experiment. Apparently the police showed up during our 10am, asking for him.

So yeah, I'm gonna have some beers tonight. Training new hires is always stressful, but holy shit.
that reminds me, one of the worst QE's I've ever worked with was apparently escorted off campus by the police when he was terminated. I found out after the fact that he threated the site quality head for his location and was fired on the spot.

How does your company even find and hire those people?

HEY @Sandwich , Ironman just announced a new 70.3 in Springfield, MA next June. Seems like a weird place for a half iron. Downstream swim in the CT river should be fast, then the bike will be hilly as balls. Put that on your list of races to consider. :monkey:

I think I'm gonna buy a kart today. Final confirm with Haley this afternoon. She had a chance to text with her mentor this am about her concerns. Everything that she was concerned about - uncomfortable with speed (60mph+) trouble steering, etc - was explained as largely just needing to get stronger and seat time. Also clarified that the safety gear issues she was having are things that will make some of her other issues better (rib cage guard anchors you to seat better; experience with rib cage guard was because of poor fit of a prior guard). And how personalization of kart will make everything feel better.

She finally hit the 'Oh! They are just small things' point. She agreed that we should go climbing one day per week to work on her strength training, especially since it will help we grip.

Should have taken the DH bike. :homer:

I three fuckited Friday... thanks @6thElement for getting this shit put together today. I should probably get my fork serviced.
Probably should have, although I'm not sure which needs a suspension service more cause the rocks weren't getting numbed much by the Smash today :D

Check for ankle bracelets when interviewing.

My new hire doesn't seem to be capable of learning anything and 4 months into the job it takes me 2 hours of explaining gir him to get one hour of work done. Been pulling back on the variety and complexity of his assignments with no improvement.

I just bot a kart.

Haley wants her annual talent show submission to be her ripping up track in her kart.

30 seconds long:

Intro: full kit, waving sitting in kart.
Next clip: starting at track entry
Next clip: onboard, tearing chicanes
Final clock (sound critical): from spectator view, ripping final s-turns, to turn 1, full throttle existing at 60+
Fade to black.

edit: it will be her mic drop of "oh, you do football/gymnastics? that's cute"

Edit 2: my buddy just gave me his old GoPro so Haley can make this and have it for studying her laps. Dudes FTMFW.

pizza dough is rising, wife is making me some sort of drink, 70* on the porch, chilling with the dogs. that plus good ride in the hills today (earned every bit of my 3200' of downs over 18 miles :D) and family hike in the hills tomorrow = feeling rather lucky, all things considered.

wifey has been agonizing over taking a new job here in town (vs. working remotely for past 16 years). vacay/flexibility/benefits not as good, pay same, maybe more interesting to her and not remote. if it was me i wouldn't 100% - flexibility and intangibles are king - but will support her whatever she chooses.

Ride tomorrow morning.

Of course tonight is a great time to try to replace the clapped out cleats on my shoes. And of course one of the bolts is rounded out from corrosion. Ughhhh.

There should be a scene of her mocking some slow boys.
I'm sure we could arrange to get her out with some adults in LO206's. They are slower than the Jr karts with the same motors (because that makes sense...)

Current situation: tucking myself in bed in the van in the Gotahold Brewing parking lot in Eureka Springs, AR after a couple-few miles of pedaling at the strangest place I’ve ever pedaled (giant statue of Jesus), five (5!) laps at the Lake Leatherwood Gravity Project tails (463% worth the $25 I paid for shuttles), a plate of tacos plus a plate of taquitos (not the best but reasonable), and several (eleventy!) beers. Situation post beers/tacos/music but pre van camping was like:

Tomorrow is 14 hours to home. I’m not ready, but I’m ready.
