Hi,

Just received a new set of 8" Galfer Wavy Rotors and Galfer Pads for my Hayes brakes.

I know there were some issues about thickness on both the pads and rotors in the past.

I just checked these against my stock Hayes and both the rotors and pads are the exact same thickness.

Rotors may be from a new batch and measure 1.6mm thick.

I have not installed them yet and I will post again any if any issues come up.

Regards,

rotors do look sweet though...
Yeah no kidding. If they truly have fixed the thickness issues, my final step is to call the Galfer bicycle guy (who works part time there btw) and ask to return all my thick crap for some new stuff. There is nothing more I can do to get them to work better at this point.

For any one interested, I finally got around to installing the Galfer Rotors and Pads today and I ran into the same problem some of you had mentioned about a tight squeeze...

I quickly did a check on the Rotor and Pad thickness and they were all close to stock Hayes so what up??

After closer inspection it appears that problem lies on the backside of the Galfer pads, there is a small hole where one end of the Hayes retaining spring and the central tab of the piston fit into place.
Well this hole on the Galfer is too small in diameter and not deep enough so that the back of the pad does not rest on the piston itself but rather on the central locating tab causing the tight fit and clearance problems others have encountered.

I pulled out a drill and in a couple of minutes was able to modify the galfer pads by enlarging and deepening the hole so that they now fit into the calipers exactly like the stock Hayes pads. I will try to post pics tomorrow of the mods I needed to perform etc..

Odd, that seems to be an issue with the new pads then, as my older ones are perfect, it was the compound that was laid on too heavy and the rotor that was too thick.

I should have new rotors and pads here within the week, will update when i compare them.
