In the manufacturing world the Industrial Internet of Things has become the latest fad buzzwords. A factory where every device and sensor sit on the network and are accessable to everyone.

I always roll my eyes at this because of the massive security risk. Minimize interfaces and connection points to the ones you need, not wholesale interconnectivity.

They are back. So, they paid the russians?
I don't think anyone knows yet.

It's usually not worth paying the ransom. First, it's often flat-out illegal, because the groups or countries either have sanctions against them, or are considered terrorist organizations, or other kinds of classifications which make giving money to them a crime.

Second, while you almost always get your files back, it's not possible to trust any of it. Consequently, you end up rebuilding your entire infrastructure anyway.
