Although it seems to me that your reasoning is a bit tortured, most gay couples I know basically agree with what you are saying. Nobody should care if they want to get married, and they would like nothing more than for people to forget about them so they can get on with their lives.

There would not be nearly as many people asking for gay marriage if being married didn't have tax and other government-sanctioned benefits that are not available unless you fit the mold.

The original idea was to incentivize people to procreate. Well we don't need more babies, so the only (IMO, weak) justification for reserving marriage to hetero couples is no longer valid.
