Hi Kidz,

I'm running an Evil DRS with 22/32 in the front and 34/12 in the back. The problem is that I'm too fat and out of shape to give up my granny, but the chainslap kinda sucks, and the chainline on my 32(front)/34(rear) combo (which I used to call my bread and butter gear for trailriding) causes problems when I torque the cranks...It's not a bad setup...I mean i usally just ride in 3rd gear on the trails and shift to the 32T ring in the front when I start descending. This system works OK, but I'd like to see if I can't do it better...

I guess I could install a SRS, but unfortunately, it appears the smallest chainring manufactured by our favorites e13 or FSA is 36T. Realistically, I'm not fit enough to mash this thing around on the trails. Ideally, I need to find a 28-32T ring that I could use for all-purpose riding. I did a quick search on bikeroom.com and found a company called "Spot Brand" who manufacture a 32T chainring...Hmmm...interesting...perhaps this is what I'm looking for.

So, has anyone heard of this company called "Spot Brand" and do you think the 32 tooth ring would work for the purpose I described AND finally, would it help my chainline as I'd be switching to a single front ring...

Sorry for the long winded message, and thanks for your help.

Matt

Things to concider...

Well, one of the reasons your chain slap is bad because of the small rings you run on the front. If you were running 36/28 or something similar and a smaller cassette and maybe short cage der. you could cut down on alot of noise.

The difference between a 36t,34t,32t, really isn't all that great, and the larger ring you run up front the farther you'll move the chain from the chainstays.

Switching to a single front ring may not improve your chainline, as you'll probably be riding in the largest top gears most of the time.

Spot makes good stuff. I've personally got a 36T Salsa (I think) with SRS and a 12-34 cassette. I've ridden that combo on 3+ hour trail rides and I'm 6'3" so it just stand up and go. Don't see much reason to have a granny on that bike, if there's too much climbing to do I'll ride my regular trail/xc bike.
