I like riding DH with a big crew, but fuckin' hate riding trails with more than one or two people. Explain those kinematics

Same. For me I think it is because local trails are slower and tighter, so loss of rhythm, bunching etc. This does not seem to effect the park riding in the same way. Also, we are more apt to stop and session things more when dh. Trail rides are just a more mellow event, DH rides everybody is hooting and hollering with much more gooning around. Add all that to the fact that park days are few times a year, so more of an event than the weekly group trail ride.

What do I know is, I'm now slow enough that no matter what we ride, if we are not sessioning something, then quite often I just watch as they slowly pull away into the distance.

Can you clear this up? The DH bike graph is showing WAY more anti-squat for the Gambler and a couple other DH frames than I'd have expected. The different gears used and the different scale on the graphs is making me question the data that does not match what I feel. What I feel is that my Ransom, Genius, and Spark all have "plenty", but not "a lot" of anti-squat, while my Gambler has "noticeably less, but still some".
34t on all my bikes except my Ransom that has a 32t.

I believe the shape of the graph is also important, with significant drop-off, descending amounts, it should perform "like a" low AS design. Specialized jacked AS way up like that for a few years, but IME (owning one) it didn't make them pedal any better, the amount would be less as the wheel traveled over things and there would be less resistance, not the same or more. They have to flatten it out IMO to significantly improve pedaling...which is what they've done on most bikes.

The other thing missing from those graphs is where the center of gravity is. The anti squat on the DH bikes are hopefully optimized for a standing rider sprinting with their COG where it would be standing, while the enduro bikes are hopefully optimized for a seated rider in the larger few gears of the cassette. The higher the cog is the lower the AS percentage will be.

Well tamarack has events going on tomorrow so brundage it is...also brought the nomad so I can pedal with wife easier .

Brother-in-law, his kid, my kid and buddy Mike from Boise is joining us...so it'll be heavily Enduro/DH type stuff..Mile and I used to ride DH/FR back in the day, he's fast and goes big so it's going to be a good day for me, plus it's been a while since he and I rode...looking forward to just hanging out.....I'll let the boys ride and Mike and I will hammer down...get to see how the nomad likes chunk and tech...

you know if you've got it set up right it loves that shit...there were certain parts of the race track last week where every time i got to them i just thought to myself "sit back and let 'er eat"....
Yeah it's o-chain, ttx22m, rfx38 170/180..going to find out tomorrow...it should ride balanced ..slack, mullet...I tuned the shock and fork to balance it and it's ride amazing well so far.

It's going to be a blast either way, I love NW riding and resorts...blue runs are tougher than what they call black in socal...I love NW riding and tech...so much fun...

I did hit up jumping Jerry to see if he's around and wants to go ride eagle bike park or other, been a while since I've ridden with these boys...excited...

I'll post up pics and some later for now rick went down and had to straighten his finger to keep riding..View attachment 216551
Ahhh man, I once had a ring-finger at 90 degs after a failed switchback like that. I was lying there groaning.... "Well, it already hurts, might just as well straighten it right away" *snock*

Rest of the weekend wore gloves where i taped that finger to the next one... Apparently called 'buddy tape'?

A physio friend fixed it for me with a few weeks of wearing a custom molded brace. 5 stars, would bend again

@jstuhlman you are correct, ,let off brakes let it ride.

Yep, LOVE this bike!!!! Didn't let me down at all.

We rode with Miles from mullet cycles, good dude...

The Nomad hammered down the chunk really well, smashed the hell out of the rims, thank God for down tube protection ....took a couple hits where back kicked out and put me into another line with a bad placed rock lol..
Had to keep backing off, it would walk on top of the rocks and come up on riders too fast. .
Both front and rear rims got spoke damage and took hits, rear rotor took a hit, pedal strikes and crank strikes..

Cornering was already known it dipped and ripped even in blown out conditions.

Hit a line into woods with roots and rocks on a hard right corner . Back end slid out and the tacky chan grabbed again almost immediately,

Wish I'd had brought the slash to run head to head on this line, everything is square edges and nasty big and some roll around...

Yeah I'd race this bike set up like this on some DH races and not back off...it was predictable a d consistent....

@bullcrew i hear ya on the downtube-i immediately put mastic between the shuttle guard and the lower guard. also put some under the lower guard as there is a weird gap under it and i cracked my first one on probably the first ride. i'd love to throw a leg over a v6 or even a megatower to see what the differences are like.

i also prefer the coil on it for dh days, if not for maybe everywhere. maybe i haven't got the kitsuma air dialed right but i couldn't stop it from barking on hard inpacts no matter how much hsc i added, and didn't want to run the air pressure any higher and lose sensitivity.

How was the warranty process...

That's part of the reason I like Santa Cruz, their warranty, haven't had to use it yet. Trek has the same style thank God .

Yeah I agree on missing spot, it would have been better to just cover it....I'll have to look at chain stay now and see...I didn't even think to address that....I had a v4 it rode great, the V6 is more planted and feels a bit more supple in chatter makong choosing a line a little easier at speed ..

Yeah I went coil right away, love it. Tried a vivid air on slash and although it's the best air shock I've ridden to date I prefer the tracking of a coil so it's getting one when I get back from this trip...
Can't fault the air at all,but in the crap we just rode and the hits it just took, the coil just gets it...

I rarely ride bikeparks these days, but would 100% have a DH bike if I was local to a good mountain and a season pass holder.

Enduro bikes are excellent for anything you have to pedal to. Most of my riding is winch and plummet, so I choose enduro or trail bike depending on how tech the descents are.

well, i meant cracked the guard...but i did break the first v4 i had, right at the beginning of the pandemic. driveside chainstay. sc was actually kinda crap to deal with but a local buddy at a shop helped me out and actually ended up upgrading me from a c to a cc for the full frame warranty cost after they dicked around and took forever at sc. but maybe you'd have better luck.

where exactly are you in socal? i have a buddy who lives in orange county who i think you'd get on with and who could probably also use a good local wrench/suspension tuner...

I did the same thing with a ring finger that was flopping around the back of my hand. Did some quick math on how long it was going to take to get to an ER to have it set and figured self service was the best service.

At this point right shoulder is basically a quick disconnect. It pops out, I swear a little, pop it back in and get on with business.
