Ghetto fix...

I just rebuilt my Powertap hub with an XT axle/hardware. I took the hub apart to repack the bearings and I noticed that the race on the axle had cracked completely in half and fell apart. I didn't want to order hardware and wait so I started digging for hardware and came up with an old XT hub. The hardware wouldn't thread on the Powertap axle (I think it was a difference in thread type), but the XT axle worked with the few pieces of Powertap hardware I needed. Seems to work just fine, took two tries to get the spacers right for the difference in width.

This begs the question, what is the most ghetto thing you've done to get your bike up an running?

We used to replace the stock PT axle stuff with Durace stuff, back when Powertap was Tune, and based in Cambridge. If it works pretty well, you must have an older hub?

I love how you're doing this to a $1,000 hub...
Its the older wired powertap. I only paid $250 from a friend for whole getup a few years ago. I'm not kind to my powertap wheel :) I use my powertap during the raining season while I'm base training. It's seen hell and high water.
