I just got a new Sunday Team (I'm loving life). I've had past success with the ghetto tubeless conversion, and was wondering if the 2.5" Maxxis Dominion DHF front and rear on DT Swiss 5.1D rims is a good tire/rim combo for ghetto tubeless?
Should be fine I would think.
I run Stans strips on mine (5.1's on a trail bike) and have run several maxxis and mich non-tubeless single ply tires (over couple of years now) with no problems.
The big bike has 721's on it with stans, and again several different (maxxis, mich, kenda) DH two ply (tubeless & non-tubeless) tires over the past couple or years with NO problems ever.
The 5.1 seems to have a good profile to hold the bead (better than 721s) so I dont think you will have a problem unless the tube is very thick, and prevents the tire from 'hooking'. You might have a little air loss at the bead or just through the tire wall unless you use some sealant.
