I am getting a Giant Ac1 frame and i have the shim for the seatpost to be 27.2 and my friend gave me a short seatpost for free. Should I go ahead and get a 2nd seatpost and get 2 saddles to easily swap them out one for DH/FR and one for longer XC rides. Or should I go with those axiom telescoping seatposts? Are they good posts and work or not worth the extra weight?

Thanks

Well i have a thomson seatpost that i ride higher when i go long rides and then i lower it for freerideing and dh. I had the people at the shop cut mine so just about half of the thomson sign sticks out when ever i fully put it in. But you can cut it lower if you want to.

How many inches have to be inserted to the bike for safety? I am 5'11" and when I go on trail rides I don't like it jacked up to point of my leg being at full extension so I cant get lower or go down good. You think I should just get a post and cut it a tad if I want?

A general rule is to make sure the post is below the welds where the top tube meets the seat tube. Otherwise just use the mark on the post.
If you don't have an interupted seat tube then there isn't much point in cutting the post other than to save a bit of weight.
