could it be possible of the administrators to enable that the world "freeride" gets the same treatment as words like **** and **** etc. I consider quite offensive and would prefer to see the *'s instead. ;)

Hmmm, while I may agree somewhat with the post above, the gemini would prolly fit your bill a little better. Lighter, prolly more versatile, yada, yada.

yeh what he said

what is your weight not that big of a deal but if your pushing 250(lol) you might have a prob with the gemini there just not that big of a bike.

but on another note you could always get a ironhorse, banshee, or santacruz heaven forbide there be another santa cruz rider in this world. so its up to you what you get but the gemini will be a good decision.

Neither. Get an iron horse or a giant, iron horse is probably your best bet. The gemini and the deisel are antiquated designs made viable through the use of new shock technology. I know theres tons of gemini'ers on here htat are going to get all pissed off, but I've ridden it and it sucks. They'll probably throw the gracia example at me, "but hes good on it...", well thats becasue he's the man, and would be fast on a huffy. You might as well buy an old school super 8 for 500 bucks and put a good shock on it, its the same thing.

Dude how can you say that! Gracia one the Red bull rampage man! WTF and Shandro came in second on a diesel. Man it pisses me off when people write sh!t like that. :blah:

just kidding,
no really for the money this guy is willing to drop on either of these two bikes i'd take a really long look at something like a VP-Free or even the new cannondale freeride bike and Trek nonameyet 7 incher when they come out.

I HAVE a super 8. Its now broken. I work at a shop that doesnt deal with DH/FR, and I can only afford a frame through employee purcahse deals. I am limited to Trek and Cannondale. I hate both of these frames, I was just looking for other people's opinions about the lesser of two evils.
If I wanted critisim from some 14 year olds, I would have looked elsewhere.

Easy tex.

Both cannondale and trek have some good stuff coming out in 05. InedibleBulk was just saying that there are better(?) suspension designs out there. I know the Trek is supposed to really sweet. It was designed with Shandro's help and will sport all saint components. I haven't seen anything indicating that Trek was going to continue the Diesel models.
I've been looking around for a cheap, used, discont, demo myself.

Hahahahahahaha...

Does anyone but me see that with a simple question of a comparison between two high single pivot bikes, it somehow turned into "Buy a Giant. Buy an Iron Horse. Buy a Super 8 and put a nice shock on it. No, don't do that. Shut up, jackass, I'll do what I want. Shut up, you're 14. No, YOU shut up..."

 Love the internet...

I'm 19, and I was seriously trying to help you out. I know how you feel, I worked at a shop that only sold giant and specialized, which wouldnt be bad except this year both companies were sold out of their cheaper bikes by the time I ordered. So I was stuck choosing between two bikes that retail for over 5g. I considered getting a IH, which believe it or not was cheaper than either the demo9 or the giant at pro-deal. If your stuck buying crappy bikes from your shop, looking for a used bike or an IH would be my best recommendation.

Hey, I'm trying to decide what to eat for lunch. Now there is a taco bell around the corner and a Wendys down the street. It's raining so i don't want to drive to far but I ate at Taco Bell last night and had the hershey squirts. What should I do?

I love it when people ask for opinions on the internet and then get all upset when they don't turn out the way they want.

Man, don't settle on a lesser of two evils. You won't enjoy riding like that. Check out the used forums. Stuff was going super cheap. Prolly even cheaper than a empoyee purchase. I sold my Dirtworks Piranha with an Avalanche for $500. Plus I've seen some 02 DHRs going for under $1000.

Just root through your trash barrel - there's got to be something edible in there.

I'll just fix it up with some ketchup from the fridge and save some money. :thumb: It'll taste like McDonalds anyway. :p

Boy somebody's feeling high and mighty since he broke the 200 post count. To respond with that much fury that age comment must have really struck a nerve, so how old are you 15? Still bitching about living with the folks hu, maybe you're one of those twenty something adults who has their stuff so together that they still live with their folks to save money

Wow these 2 sentences show how little you actually know about bike design. Please shut your yap until you know what you are talking about.

In a healthy tension
I currently ride the Gracia DH model with the floating brake arm and I love it. I have ridden v-10's and they are nice but a little complicated in the suspension designs. Many of my friends ride them and like them but for the money there is simply no match for the simplicity and durability of a good single pivot design. Yes the new suspension has made the single pivot even more desirable because the lack of brake jack with the floater and the pedal platform of the spv. It's lighter (mine is built up at 36 lbs and i race it in the expert class) and simpler to use. It also has the 12mm thru axle which increases stiffness and strength. There are many hubs available for it's use and Cannondale has the best warranty program, they are very liberal with their replacements, though I have never needed one. It has the 1.5 headtube which is in my opinion stronger and wiser to use on a DH bike. Plus it gives you the option of running a single crown (which I have for the whole season). It's hand built and high quality. How many other of the frames listed can say that?

Personally I love my Transition Dirtbag for "freeride", it definatly has served me well.

To be honest I have never ridden a single pivot before so I have no riding experience on them but I would have to say go with the Gemini if anything because I think that the Desiel is a bit on the pricey side and I have a few friends that like the Geminis that they ride. Thats my vote

I love it when people "call you out" without providing an actual information of their own. But perhaps I should clarify so transcend can calm down... A 1999 santa cruz super 8 and a cannondale gemini are not the same thing, there ya happy? The cannondale's suspension does work, but the bike has only 7 inches of travel and longer chainstays than I would ever want to ride at 17.75. It also has a 15 inch high BB, not exactly ideal for cornering. The bike feels more like a freeride bike with a big fork than a DH bike. And for the cash, you can do better. I am not necessarily against single pivot designs, just against cannondales.. and treks. Trek lists retail for its frame only at 2800, which is ludicris even if you're paying wholesale. The same amount at retail will get you a complete IH or almost get you a Giant DH comp, both bikes which I would rather be riding than the trek.

Yeah, look in the buy and sell. Trek's are really expensive and they aren't great for the money. Cannondales are also pretty pricey and you could get a way better used bike for less money.

I can definitely say that Diesel frames are selling a lot less than the listed price. I have seen at least 3 (new) on Ebay all go for less than 1800....D

Between the two, I would vote for the Gemini--it's lighter, cheaper, and it seems to be much easier to come by (I see Gemini's in lots of shops, but I only saw a Diesel in one shop, which was in Whistler). Also, I don't believe that the Diesel comes as a complete bike. However, if money is of any concern, I would get an Iron Horse.

Having owned the DHR and a Gemini DH, and spent a lot of time on a Gemini 1000... I have to say that's terrible advice. Both of the geminis are more versatile, especially the standard one (although the BB is too high for racing, IMO). Shock performance on both is great if you take the time to tune your shock.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Gemini. It's very solid, rides great, and has a great warranty. The diesel I can't comment on... haven't spent any time on it. I say ride both and pick whichever one has better geometry for you.
