Gimme some good techno or trance. I've been listening to some but it's mostly crap. I like fast beats, bass and distorted riffs. Most of it riffless, what's up with that?

The new xm mix is pretty sweet. Didn't really like the WTF! mix. I like:

Green Cuts
If Breaks could kill
Breaks v1.4 and 2.1

The other stuff is ok.

Computers mostly, I'd imagine. I used to play around with a pretty amusing program called Fruity Loops. People can make some professional sounding stuff on that, so I'd imagine a lot of trance/techno music is created on a computer.

techno's not really my thing, but i've got a decent amount of electronic stuff which is kinda either glitchy (autechre, coil) or downtempo (to rococo rot, board of canada); i like Pole's 1st quite a bit too, if you like dub influence. knuck, the 3cd ninja tune comp is pretty good.

OMAR SANTANA!!!!! get any of the cd's from the hardcore for the headstrong trilogy...it is the best techno ever...and thats sayin a lot comin from me...i absolutly love techno...the resurection is the first cd and it's prolly the best of the three

and to answer your guys questions about how it's made...pretty much all good or profesional dj's their music does start on computers and synthisizers (sp) but the true magic doesn't start until it's put on to records and then on to turnables....thats where most techno gets its awsome sound

Dude, I'm all about the live sets these days. Get a world-class DJ, and record his set at a club or concert, live mixes, great white-label stuff, it's f'n great.
My favorite on is a Paul Van Dyk live set, the name on my mp3 is Paul Van Dyk live 10-08. Check it out. There is one really, really great site for DLing those live sets, I'll try to dig it up...

The only homestarrunner or whatever i thought was really funny was when the dude in the wrestling mask was describing how to make your own techno song. That was funny.....
