FYI North Shore Monkeys:

The city is entertaining plans to close all Gloucester "watershed" lands from sunset (or earlier) though sunrise. This has the potential to affect a large amount of woodlands including Dogtown and other areas. They tried this a few years ago, and mtbers attended the meeting in large but respectful numbers and were successful in getting a compromise: riding/use allowed until 11 p.m. and closed thereafter. There's a thread up about this on bustedspoke.com link

Meeting appears to be Monday, June 9, 2008 – 7 PM Gloucester City Hall - Third Floor Conference Room

Don't give up freedoms you don't have to. Attend the meeting and be respectful, but take advantage of the process to share your views. Town officials have stated they "can't understand why anyone would be in there after dark." Show them that there are legitimate, law-abiding users with valid reasons to be there.

Update: Curfew efforts tabled until meeting on the 23rd of July. Only 6 riders showed up for this past go round, so if you care abut night riding in Gloucester, put July 23rd in your books. Here's a link to the Sinister bikes forum, which has comments from Bruce Linehan, who attended the meeting. This should help flesh out the situation up there. For those who don't know, Joe Orange is the official "Constable of Dogtown," deputized by the mayor's office and, indeed, does carry a firearm.

The local paper came out in support of the proposal earlier in the spring:
