Thinking about new gloves and my memory jogged back to the first really great pair of gloves I owned.

Mid 90s, from specialized, 3/4 length - with a greyish leather palm & fingers with black on the knuckles and back of hand. They didn't have any padding. They were worn by the specialized team - I recall Ned Overend wearing them.

Does anyone know what the name of these were? I know it's highly unlikely, but I would love to track down a pair on ebay one day.

I had those too. Liked them until I crashed hard and took off a finger nail entirely from the back side. The nail was hanging by a tiny hunk of flesh near the tip. Never wore gloves that didn't cover my fingers since. Another option would be to cut the finger tips off a pair of full finger gloves.
