While I do not like these multifunctional brush cutter/hedge-/branch trimmers because of lower reliabilty, they seem to be the ticket for trail building because of the possibility to split them for easy transport.

I also have a regular one, not one of these multitools that I posted. But these are way easier to hike in and out and you can have one engine and multiple heads for different tasks. If I had to buy one purely for trail building, especially with remote, not easy to access by car trails, then this would be it.
