He said he had meant to say "coup" instead of the slur. KTRS president and general manager Tim Dorsey agreed that the remark was accidental but announced the same day that Lenihan had been fired.

Rice said Sunday that the incident is evidence that the "birth defect" of slavery infuses even mature democracies with racial tensions that take generations to heal.

No crap... wow.
It's the CYA principle for the management no doubt. Still, slip of the tongue or not, if you say something like that you've gotta expect repercussions.

Slacking at work
They were yammering about this on the local morning show here last week. The main dude on the broadcast was like "why the hell didn't he just hit the delay?"

They were pretty sure it was a publicity stunt. That guy will be working at another station in no time, everyone will know who he is, wherever he goes there will be a ruckus of free publicity... this was no mistake.

If Marconi (Was on KNRK, now on rival KUFO, both in Portland) can get a job here in tow after he was fired when he aired and laughed at the video of the US hostage being beheaded, I doubt this will be enough to keep the guy out of a job.

To be fired is bad though, but delay is your friend.

btw, was the guy who fired the dj a democrat? sounds like he was a republican.

i think the trigger was pulled a little quick, considering dj's have advocated dooring cyclists and they kept their jobs quicker.
