If you're going to be there for any longer than an evening a passport is a must. It's not hard to get into Canada, but the US border patrol makes it a pain in the ass to get back if you don't have the proper documentation. Have fun chilling with our friendly neighbors to the north!
You'll want a passport to get back INTO the US.
